SRINAGAR, May 21: Chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) today said that the Varsity would introduce job-oriented courses, which would suit the growing demands of professionals’ at societal level here.
Dr Srikumar Banerjee, an internally acclaimed scientist and Chancellor CUK told reporters here that the institution was building facilities to increase the avenues of higher education as well as start various job-oriented courses to help tap the growing unemployment in the state.
“The institution was introducing job oriented courses and higher education opportunities to suit the community demands, as Kashmir valley and Ladakh region have limited opportunities for higher education,” he said, adding, the varsity was building facilities for education in advanced level, so that the higher education sector cannot be neglected.
Dr. Banerjee arrived on Sunday in Srinagar for interaction with the top State dignitaries and faculty and students of the CUK including Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
He said there was a growing demand of professionals in Nanosciences and keeping in view the institution has a proposal to start was on nanosciences. “When we research and we find that if you want to start working on nanosciences and nanotechnology, you must have a basic background of physics and chemistry,” Banerjee said.
He said: “The institute will start vocational courses like diplomas in automobile, mobile repairing; Horticulture and Agriculture in partnership with top institutes and local units here that would help fight the unemployment.”
“Presently, the varsity is functioning at different places due to which the students have to face a lot of inconvenience, and that was why these structures would be raised,” he said.
Dr. Banerjee also said to provide quality education the varsity was in a process to sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with top institutes of India and abroad.
