JAMMU, Mar 6: Central University Jammu (CUJ) organized a workshop on Sukanya Samridhi Yojna (SSA), women empowerment perspectives, challenges and way forward.
The workshop was attended Col Vinod Kumar (Postmaster General, Jammu Region), Sanjeev Mahajan (Regional Manager, State Bank of India), Rajeshwar (Regional Manager, J&K Bank) and Dr Jaya Bhasin (Dean, School of Business Studies).
A detailed presentation was given by Jaya Bhasin and Dr Anju (Associate Professor) and other team members of the Project under Indian Counsel of Social Science Research, New Delhi. On the onset, Prof Jaya explained the findings of the survey done on Sukanya Samridhi Yojna accounts being opened in Jammu Region especially in villages near to boarder areas.
The workshop was conducted under Short Term Empirical Project ( Collaboration) sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi and organized by School of Business Studies, CUJ.
Best practices for opening of SSY accounts were shared by Regional managers of banks. Sanjeev Mahajan mentioned that SBI is doing all efforts to reach the customers and providing services for opening of SSA Accounts in Jammu, its scope. Thereafter, Rajeshwar also gave a broad sketch on the services and assistance provided by the J&K Bank in whole Jammu area. Ravi Kumar, Assistant Superintendent of Posts Offices also gave a picture of services especially SSY provided by the Post Offices across Jammu and especially in the offices located near the border areas.
Col Vinod Kumar, Postmaster General Jammu Region emphasized that women all over the world face mental load of performing of household chores every day. He stressed upon the need of gender equality in society as people have to change their mindset which some are still thinking in obsolete manners.
The workshop was also attended by SSY account holders including girl child, students, their parents as well as research scholars.
