JAMMU, May 16: A two-day International Webinar on ‘COVID-19 and Emotional Wellness’ is being organized by the School of Education, Central University of Jammu, under Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT) scheme of Government of India.
The inaugural session of the webinar was attended by Prof Ashok Aima, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, Padamshree Dr Balwant Thakur, Cultural Diplomat of India to South Africa; Prof C B Sharma, former Chairperson, National Institute of Open Schooling, New Delhi; Prof G M Mallick, BGSBU, Rajouri; Prof S M Mishra, Kurukshetra University, Haryana; Prof Kiran Deep Kour, Punjabi University, Patiala; Dr Rishi Goel, SIASTE, Jhajjar, Haryana; Prof Dhanjay Joshi, GGSIP University, New Delhi; Prof S K Jain, CUJ, Prof Rita Arora, Jaipur University, Rajasthan; Dr Mrityunjay Sharma, HPU, Shimla; Luh Angelianawati, Universitas Kristen Indonesia, Jakarta, Indonesia; Prof Sarika Shrama, CU Haryana; Prof Vinod Shanwal, Goutam Buddha University, Noida; Prof Usha Tikoo, SSCE, Jammu; Dr Priyadarshini, GBU, Noida; Sanjay, Counselor from Dr J N Baliya, CUJ and Juhie Mohan from Big FM Jammu.
Prof Ashok Aima appealed the teachers, policymakers and academicians to play a significant role of maintaining the emotional wellness of not only the students but also the stakeholders even. He said that the role of education during these days should be liberating, therapeutic and meaningful. Adding to these, he clearly said that the role of teachers is not only to teach the contents to the students but also to council them by understanding their mental status of the students; so the contents should be replaced with the alternative education relevant to life skills.
Dr J N Baliya, Programme Coordinator and Convener of the Webinar and Dr, Ritu Bakshi, Associate Professor, Department of Educational Studies, CUJ and the Organizing Secretary of the webinar, briefed about outline of the webinar.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof C B Sharma, former Chairperson of the NIOS, New Delhi. He said that life experience is more significant than the content and curriculum designed for education. He said that the time has come when the teachers will be the popular faces in television who are the real actors. So, we need to revisit our curriculum, content, pedagogy and assessment and evaluation mechanisms in our education system.
