KATRA, Feb 20: A delegation of Chamber of Tourism, Trade and Industry Katra (CTTIK) led by its president, Raj Kumar Padha and secretary, Atul Sharma, today met K.K Thappa, Chief Engineer Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) to discuss electricity supply concerns affecting the hospitality industry in the region.
The delegation emphasized the vital role of electricity in hospitality sector, comparing it to the lifeblood of the industry.
Given the critical dependence of hotels and other establishments on uninterrupted power supply, the delegation urged JPDCL to ensure 24-hour power supply to maintain seamless operation of businesses catering to millions of pilgrims visiting the holy town of Katra annually.
The delegation also raised the issue of electricity billing under the KVAH tariff structure, which has been applied with retrospective effect.
Members of the delegation referred to an order of Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) which states that application of KVAH tariff should be prospective from November 2022 and demanded rectification of bills issued to ensure compliance with the regulatory order.
Demands of urgent augmentation of region’s electricity distribution infrastructure, provision of LT cables, transformer cables and upgradation of overloaded transformers to ensure stable and efficient power supply were also raised.
Another demand raised was introduction of power amnesty scheme for commercial power consumers.
The delegation expressed hope that JPDCL would take immediate steps to address these issues and provide timely resolutions for the betterment of hospitality industry and the local economy.
