LEH, June 3: A delegation of the College Teachers Association (CTA), Ladakh, led by its president Dr Sonam Wangmo, today met Bhanu Prabha, Administrative Secretary, Higher Education Department, at the Civil Secretariat, Leh.
During the meeting, the delegation, which also included Dr Syed Ali Shah, vice president and Dr Tashi Dorjey, treasurer of the Association, highlighted the urgent need for the finalization and notification of the Recruitment Rules (RRs) for college teachers.
Dr. Wangmo emphasized that the completion of the RR process is essential for expediting the placement and promotion of teachers across various academic grades, thereby ensuring career progression and enhancing institutional efficiency.
Another important issue raised during the interaction was the formulation of a fair, transparent, and teacher-friendly transfer policy. The Association requested that transfer orders, wherever due, be issued by the end of June to facilitate the smooth functioning of colleges and ensure a seamless commencement of the forthcoming academic session.
The CTA delegation also expressed concern regarding the proposed introduction of integrated courses at the university campus. The Association pointed out that such a move could potentially affect student enrolment in the six constituent colleges of Ladakh and urged the administration to undertake a comprehensive assessment of its implications while safeguarding the interests of existing colleges and students.
The Administrative Secretary gave a patient hearing to the issues raised by the delegation and assured that the concerns and suggestions of the teaching community would be examined with due consideration in the larger interest of higher education in Ladakh.
