SRINAGAR, June 20: The State Level Sanctioning Committee of Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) headed by Chief Secretary, Mohammad Iqbal Khandey reviewed the performance and progress under the RKVY for the year 2013-14.
RKVY was launched in J&K in the year 2008-2009 to give fillip to State Agriculture sector, under which Rs. 181 crore has been spent upto March 2013-14 on infrastructure development, production growth in agriculture and allied sectors, saffron development, urban vegetable clusters, protein supplements in animal, sheep husbandry and fisheries.
During 2013-14 under various components of RKVY, a total of Rs. 105 crore were utilized upto March 2014 under its Normal, Saffron Development, Urban Vegetable Cluster and Protein Supplements Mission.
While reviewing the overall performance, the Chief Secretary emphasized on fund rationalization across the sectors, to include Animal, Sheep and Fisheries in the Normal RKVY Plan, 3rd party evaluation by NABCONS for systematic and objective assessment of ongoing and completed projects, besides upgrading the quality of Poly Green Houses across all sectors.
On saffron development in the State, Chief Secretary directed for completing rejuvenation of saffron lands and harnessing tube-wells to ensure irrigation of the saffron fields on time. He also called for identification of potential saffron growing areas in other districts of the State including Jammu Division for bringing more land under saffron cultivation.
The meeting also discussed the proposed Action Plan under RKVY and its sub schemes with emphasis on strengthening irrigation system, S. M Farms, integrated mushroom centers, silk worm seed station, soil health improvement, promotion of organic farming.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Planning and Development, B. R. Sharma, Vice Chancellors SKUAST Jammu/ Kashmir, Joint Secretaries, Agriculture, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Commissioner Secretary Agriculture Production, Head of Departments, Agriculture, Floriculture, Horticulture, Sericulture, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Fisheries, Cooperatives etc and other senior officers.
