SRINAGAR, July 26: Chief Secretary, B. B. Vyas today chaired the first meeting of State Level Steering Committee on Climate Change (SLCCC) to review the progress achieved in J&K with regard to the implementation of project namely ‘Climate Resilient Sustainable Agriculture in Rain-Fed areas of Jammu and Kashmir’.
The project is under implementation in the water stressed in rain shadow areas of Bhalwal block of Jammu district and Budgam block of Budgam district through Agriculture Production Department as an executing entity.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary APD, Commissioner Secretary Finance, Commissioner Secretary Forest, Director Agriculture Kashmir, officials of NABARD.
During the meeting, the issues related to climate change confronting the State were discussed threadbare. The Chief Secretary asked J&K Climate Change Cell to submit more projects for funding to National Adaption of Fund on Climate Change and Green Climate Funds.
The CS directed APD to utilize the money on the already sanctioned project of Agriculture on Climate Resilient Sustainable Agriculture in Kandi areas of J&K. The project has been sanctioned for an amount of Rs 22.15 crore and Rs 11.25 crore has already been parked with NABARD.
The CS also gave directions for taking effective steps so that quantifiable mitigation measures are placed to counter negative impact on climate change on existing crop cycle.
