SRINAGAR, Sept 3: Chief Secretary Mohammad Iqbal Khandey today reviewed the implementation of the SVEEP programme across the State through a video conference with all the Deputy Commissioners.
Chief Electoral Officer, Umang Narula, Administrative Secretaries, senior officers were also present in the meeting.
Chief Secretary received brief from the Deputy Commissioners regarding the measures taken to increase the voter awareness and participation of the people in the upcoming Assembly elections in the State.
Mr. Narula presented a brief summary of the achievements under the SVEEP programme. He said as many as 10 lakh new voters have been added during the recent electoral revisions.
Chief Secretary stressed on intensifying the campaign to encourage voters to participate in the electoral process. He said voter awareness programmes should be carried forward through print and electronic media, radio networks, mobile networks, folk plays, pamphlets, posters and hoardings.
Mr. Khandey asked the Deputy Commissioners to reach out to people in villages, towns and upper reaches and ensure that gender gap is removed through increased women enrolment.
