AKHNOOR, Sept 8: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Sham Lal Sharma today said that political parties advocating for Autonomy and Self Rule are depriving people of their democratic rights.
While addressing meeting of Block Congress Committee Akhnoor here today, Sham Lal lambasted the leaders having Kashmir centric approach for stalling the fourth coming Local Bodies and Panchayat elections in the State. He said that the leaders having Kashmir centric mindset shouldn’t utter a word against the nation for their vested interest and they should remember they are under oath of Constitution of India. The nation is always first and is above the petty politics.
Sharma cautioned NC and PDP that they shouldn’t misguide the people of J&K for their petty politics and should desist from making statements against the nation. He further said the Kashmir belongs to every individual of the State and it is not the personal property of few valley based leaders.
“The NC and PDP are thrusting on Greater Autonomy and Self Rule, respectively, but on the other hand these parties don’t wish to prevail sense of democracy in the state as they are bent upon to create hurdles in holding Local Bodies and Panchayat elections thereby, depriving the people from their rights. He said for the last 30 years the previous Governments did not implement the 73rd Amendment in Panchayati Raj Act and it was only Congress party which got it implemented. Thereafter, these amendments were reversed by the BJP-PDP for their vested interests.
Sham expressed his anguish over creating hurdles in holding Panchayat and Local Bodies elections smoothly by the Kashmir centric parties. He further said that these parties are not interested in prevailing the sense of democracy in the State. By this, they are scuttling the democratic process in the State. He said that in opposing the election, the mindset of these Kashmir centric parties have been exposed.
He appealed the Governor to hold the Local Body elections as soon as possible as per schedule. He also cautioned that in case these are deferred, it will encourage anti-national elements.
