Crude oil futures up on overseas cues

NEW DELHI, Feb 12: Crude oil futures prices rose by 0.39 per cent to Rs 6,239 per barrel today as speculators created positions amid a firm trend in Asia.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude oil for delivery in February gained Rs 24, or 0.39 per cent, to Rs 6,239 per barrel, with a business turnover of 1,069 lots.

The oil for the March delivery moved up by Rs 22, or 0.35 per cent, to Rs 6,236 per barrel, with a business volume of 63 lots.

Marketmen said the rise in crude oil futures was largely in tandem with a firming trend in Asia due to strong winter demand and expectations that new Federal Reserve head Janet Yellen will not shake up US monetary policy.

Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate crude prices for March delivery advanced by 42 cents to USD 100.36 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. (AGENCIES)
