POONCH, Oct 10: A young woman hailing from Degwar village of Poonch, who had crossed over to Pak occupied Kashmir (PoK) in 2013, was today handed over to the District Administr-ation at Chakkan-da-Bagh by the Pakistani authorities.
She has been identified as Azmat Jan (35), wife of Shakeel Ahmed, resident of Degwar village, near the Line of Control in district Poonch. She had crossed over to PoK after a tiff with the husband and members of in-laws’ family on July 5, 2013. The Pak troops arrested the woman on that side of the LoC and handed over to the Intelligence agencies. There after no clue could be established about her despite the fact that authorities on this side had communicated to Pak authorities on the very next day that a woman had strayed into PoK inadvertently. But there was no response from there in this connection.
Official sources said after a communication was received by the District Administration Poonch on hot line from Pak authorities, DC Poonch TA Zargar deputed TFO (Custodian) Poonch, Tanveer Ahmed, along with Tehsildar and SHO to the Chakkan-da-Bagh LoC point near Poonch to receive the woman.
The team accompanied by Army and Intelligence officials opened the gates and the Pak authorities then handed over the woman to the Indian officials at around 1.30 pm. The woman was taken into custody by Poonch Police and security agencies immediately after her arrival here and she was then brought to Poonch city. She is being produced in the court tomorrow, the sources maintained.
The family members of the woman when came to know about the matter, tried to establish contact with the Administration but they were not allowed to go to Chakkan-Da-Bagh. The woman was later allowed to meet the family members by police and they also confirmed her identity. She was now in Police custody and placed under sustained questioning.
