Crops dying for want of irrigation: Choudhary

JAMMU, Jan 17: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Hamid Choudhary expressing his grave concern over arid weather conditions prevailing in the State has asked the Irrigation and Flood Control Department officials to ensure enough water in canals so that crops could be irrigated well in time. He said that farmers are facing acute shortage of water and whatever is available in canals is also not reaching tail ends due to which crops are dying.
In his statement issued here Choudhary Hamid said due to ongoing dry spell the Rabi crop is almost on the verge of destruction and on the other hand canals have also dried up leaving no scope for irrigation. He said that farmers’ community in the State is on the verge of facing great hardships in days to come and keeping in view their condition the Irrigation Department must ensure adequate water in canals so that crops could be irrigated.
