RAJOURI, Apr 27: Heavy rain and hail-storm caused extensive damage to the crop in Rajouri-Poonch belt this afternoon while five goats were killed and a villager injured in lightening in Balakote area of Mendhar today.
Reports said that heavy rain in Rajouri-Poonch area this afternoon caused extensive damage to the crop and fruit trees. It rained for about 2-3 hours causing flash flood in the nallahs. The `snow balls’ with larger mass fell during thunder storm/ hail-storm for about half an hour and caused damage to the crops of the farmers.
The sky was overcast with thick, dark clouds and it turned dark during the day. The vehicles were seen moving with head lights on in the Rajouri town and other areas. It was followed by heavy thunder shower and hail-storm.
Reports from Balakote in Mendhar said that five goats of one Riaz Ahmed, resident of Ramlutta village were killed and shepherd Wajid Ahmed was injured in lightning. The incident took place when Wajid was cutting green leaves for goats. A strong beam of light from the sky hit the goats and the villager. He fell down from the tree and was later removed to hospital.
