JAMMU, Apr 28: A criminal lodged in a jail in Kathua District plotted the last night’s firing incidents at Miran Sahib and RS Pura areas.
This information was shared by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Dr Vinod Kumar, while addressing media persons today.
“From the preliminary investigation, we have reached at a conclusion that Arun Choudhary alias Abbu Jaat of R.S. Pura, District Jammu, who is currently lodged in District Jail Kathua, plotted the firing incidents at a sweet shop in Miran Sahib and another location in RS Pura for ransom,” the SSP told media persons.
Pertinently, one person riding a scooty fired some shots on a sweet shop owned by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Om Parkash Khajuria in Miran Sahib Area around 7:55 pm on Saturday. Thereafter, two persons, riding on a motorcycle fired gunshots at the residence of one Rajat Kumar of Chohalla, RS Pura around 9:15 pm.
After creating panic in the areas, the unidentified gunmen disappeared.
The SSP Jammu, Dr Vinod Kumar said post commission of the crime, police teams from Miran Sahib and RS Pura areas reached at the crime spots and seized CCTV footages beside registering cases FIR numbers 44/2024 under sections 307, 336, 34 IPC and 3/25 and 3/27 Arms Act at Police Station Miran Sahib and 74/2024 under sections 452, 307, 34 IPC and 3/25 and 3/27 Arms Act at Police Station RS Pura to further investigate into the matters.
He said after analysing the CCTV footages and with the help of human intelligence, three suspects were finally zeroed in from Langotia Village in RS Pura Tehsil on Sunday morning.
During sustained questioning, he said, the three suspects identified as Karanjeet Singh alias Guga, Ashmeet Singh alias Krrish of RS Pura and Kulbir Bhagat alias Rinku of Langotiyan, RS Pura, admitted to their involvement in the twin firing incidents.
According to him, one of the accused, Guga is a history-sheeter with four FIRs registered against him at Police Stations RS Pura and Arnia while the other Kulbir Bhagat alias Rinku was also involved in a rape case registered at Police Station Bishnah.
He said a country made pistol and a cartridge was recovered from the possession of the accused. Besides, a scooty and a motorcycle used in the commission of the offence were also seized, said the SSP Jammu.
Police have started further investigation into the matter to understand as to who provided logistic support to the criminals.
Replying a question about a social media handle by the name “Abbu Jaat” claiming responsibility of the attack, the SSP said, “From preliminary investigation, it appears that the owner of the account Arun Choudhary alias Abbu Jaat, who is currently lodged in a jail in Kathua District, plotted the firing incidents.”
“However, we’re verifying the authenticity of this social media handle to reach at a conclusion,” he said.
