Srinagar, Sept 20: Under its #Mission1000Beds initiative, YouWeCan Foundation, run by international cricketing icon Yuvraj Singh, has set up 50 Critical Care Unit (CCU) beds at the Government Medical College & Hospital in Srinagar, in collaboration with Accenture.
Funds contributed by Accenture have also been used by YouWeCan Foundation to provide a range of medical equipment including ICU ventilators, BiPAP machines, patient monitors, ECG machines, defibrillators and oxygen cylinders to the hospital.
The facility was inaugurated virtually by Yuvraj Singh recently in the presence of Dr Yashpal Sharma, Director (Coordination), New Govt. Medical Colleges, Jammu & Kashmir and Managing Director, J&K Medical Supplies Corporation Ltd., and delegates from Accenture and the hospital.
On this initiative, Yuvraj Singh said: “The second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic overwhelmed the healthcare infrastructure of our country. We struggled to procure ICU beds, oxygen cylinders, and other critical care facilities to help our loved ones during that period. Having witnessed not just the heart-rending suffering around us but also having experienced a personal loss, I felt an acute need to step up to support our healthcare providers and frontline workers in their fight against this deadly virus. Through our #Mission1000Beds initiative, we are setting up COVID-19 critical care facilities at hospitals across the country to increase existing capacities.”
In addition to Jammu & Kashmir, YouWeCan Foundation has partnered with Accenture to set up a total of 385 CCU beds at government hospitals across Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Haryana and Assam.
The #Mission1000Beds initiative was launched by YouWeCan Foundation in partnership with OneDigital Entertainment on June 1, 2021, as a hospital capacity expansion solution that aims to rapidly scale up critical care facilities across India.
Shabir Momin, Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer, OneDigital Entertainment, said: “We are setting up critical care beds primarily in smaller centres in India after undertaking a comprehensive need assessment based on the number of cases in that location till date and the current capacity of the hospitals.”
As part of its commitment to COVID-19 relief efforts in India, Accenture is collaborating with 15 non-profit organizations across 18 states. The collaboration aims to support more than 5,000 hospital beds with over 30 oxygen plants and other critical care equipment at government and charitable hospitals, especially in rural and remote parts of the country.
