Sir,
With the arrest of three cricket players in connection with spot fixing and cheating allegations, during the ongoing IPL series, the Gentleman’s game has again been sullied by the very people who earned name, fame and money from it. They not only cheated the huge fan following but also their conscience as well. If this unholy presence is not stopped at once, it will discredit the game for ever. In the past, many match fixing and spot fixing scandals had hit the newspapers, and it was expected that players might have learned one or two lessons from it. But nothing like that seems to have happened.
Many senior players have expressed anguish over these developments and have asked for severe steps to be taken to stop this rot. It is very disgusting that despite getting huge money during matches, these players have fallen in bookies trap. The BCCI must learn some lessons from this unsavoury episode and take some concrete measures to stem the rot. Otherwise Gentleman’s game will lose its sheen forever.
