The creation of J&K Trade Promotion Organisation is an excellent idea to promote handicrafts and handloom sector in the State. Handicrafts and handloom industry is an important component of State’s economy and job generation.
Due to turmoil in the Valley this sector received a severe setback, but continued to survive somehow. But it may not survive if it continued to be neglected and does not receive Government support. The Government has sufficient wherewithal to sustain this industry by displaying the products at various Government owned Tourist Reception Centres and sale outlets.
It may be mentioned here that a good number of people are involved with this industry and it is quite imperative to involve more people with this sector to provide them job opportunities. Besides, the sector is associated with the cultural traditions of all the three provinces of the State-Jammu,Ladakh and Kashmir. Each province has its uniqueness to exhibit through this medium. Earnest efforts must be made to give an impetus to handicrafts and handloom sector of the State.
