KATHUA, July 5: Provincial Electric Employees Union (PEEU) has strongly demanded opening of new EM&RE Division in Kathua with its headquarters at Basohli and reorganization of the entire department.
In a meeting of the Union held under the chairmanship of Hardarshan Singh, president district sub- unit Hiranagar today, the members strongly projected their demands. The employees and workers also discussed their problems being faced on day today basis.
The Union strongly demanded setting up of new EM&RE Division at Basohli as it has vast area which needs proper attention. They said Kathua Division is already over burdened due to increase in the infrastructure and assets. Meter readers are also over loaded and they should not be allotted moré than 300 connections. The union members also demanded provision of safety tools and implements so that accident deaths/ injuries could be contained.
They further demanded to provide telephone facility at each receiving station, deployment of permanent linemen for maintaining lines and distribution of power. It was pointed out that department has not created any post of linemen after 1981, only need based workers and daily wagers are made to work as linemen. They demanded the requisite staff to be appointed in the newly commissioned stations. The Union also demanded re-organisation of PDD, amendment in service recruitment rules, implementation of employees welfare scheme, conducting of DPC of all cadre and regularization of daily rated and consolidated workers.
Mr Singh said that Union will project their demands under the leadership of P C Sharma, provincial president with the higher authorities as there was urgent need of nearly 5000 technical staff ( Technicians I to IV/ Linemen / SBAs) to run the system properly in the region.
