JAMMU, Mar 14: Minister for Higher Education Mohammad Akbar Lone today inaugurated 3-day Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign (BNPIC) organized by Press Information Bureau (PIB), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, here at Vijaypur.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that such programmes help to aware general masses about various centrally sponsored schemes and called for launching similar campaigns in all regions including Leh, Kashmir and Jammu so that the benefits of these schemes percolate down to the targeted lot.
Earlier, the Minister inspected stalls set up by various departments of State and Centre Governments, banks etc and evinced keen interest in the projection of schemes under various sectors. He appreciated the endeavour of PIB for organizing such programmes for the rural upliftment.
Development Commissioner, Samba, Mubarak Singh also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the achievements under different centrally sponsored schemes under implementation in the district.
The resource persons delivered lectures on various flagship schemes under the Bharat Nirman Rural Development Programme like MGNREGA, NRHM, SSA, Mid Day Meal Schemes and RAMSA.
Song and Drama Division, a Media Unit under Ministry of Information and Broadcasting presented a variety cultural show which was highly lauded by the audience present on the occasion.
Later, the Minister paid surprise visit to Government Degree College, Samba and took stock of the facilities available in the college. He inspected various sections, including Women Development Cell, Science Labs and Computer Application Department.
During inspection, the Minister directed the Principal to maintain cleanliness in and around the college.
He also interacted with the teaching staff including contractual lecturers and asked them to work with dedication and devotion.
The Principal of the college projected various demands, including sanction of 2 Split Air Conditioners for the Computer Application Department. Mr. Lone gave a patient hearing and assured that the genuine demands would be looked into.
