NEW DELHI, July 21:
CPI(M) today rejected BJP’s offer of a parliamentary debate on Lalit Modi controversy and stuck to its demand for a fair investigation and the resignation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje over the issue.
Debate in Parliament is no substitute for investigation and for a fair investigation. Swaraj and Raje should resign, CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said here.
He said the onus is squarely on the government and it has to act to break the logjam.
Yechury also reminded BJP of its stand during the 2G spectrum allocation scam. The winter session of parliament in 2010 was a complete wash-out as BJP-led opposition had forced repeated adjournments in parliament on the 2G issue demanding resignation of the then Telecom Minister and launching of investigation.
“You had maintained the same stand during the 2G scam and demanded resignation of the then Telecom Minister A Raja and an investigantion into the case,” Yechury said adding “the ruling party should adopt the same yardstick now.”
Amid the disruptions of the Rajya Sabha proceedings, BJP leader Arun Jaitley offered an immediate discussion and said Swaraj could make a statement on the issue. (PTI)
