JAMMU, Dec 26: A function was organized by Communist Party of India today here at Press Club to mark the 90th foundation day of the party.
It was on this day when the Communist Party of India (CPI) was founded 90 years back in extremely unfavourable political conditions in the city of Kanpur.
The function was chaired by Abdul Rehman Tukroo, State secretary of the party and started with unfurling of party’s flag. The function was also attended by State Council members, party members beside others.
In his speech, Tukroo, recalled the day of Dec 26, 1925, when a few ardent patriots moved by the urge to free the mother land from colonial bondage, came together in the city of Kanpur to form CPI with a view to fight for National independence and a future of socialism.
Amarjeet Singh and Mohd Yusif highlighted the historic role that the communist movement played in organizing working class, peasants and poorer sections of the society in defence of their class interest and human rights.
