Srinagar, Aug 27: Court today rejected police remand for a 12-year old boy who has been booked for attempt to murder, sedition and arson in Eid-ul-Fitr violence that took place on last Monday in which a police vehicle was set ablaze and three police men were beaten up by mob in old city area.
Police have arrested 5 youth for Eid violence, most of them young boys while 12-year boy and 6th standard student, Faizan Bashir Sofi son of Bashir Ahmad Sofi of Ganderpora Eidgah was arrested by police yesterday and was lodged in Police Station Safa Kadal for the night.
Faizan was produced before the court today for remand but court sent him to juvenile home. Advocate Babar Jan Qadri who pleaded Faizan’s case prayed before the court that his detention in the Police Station was violation of the Article 21 and 22 of Indian Constitution and violation of international law governing child rights. He pleaded against police remand and court then sent the boy to juvenile home.
Police have booked Faizan under Section 307, 336, 152 of RPC. Under these sections he faces murder, sedition, arson and un-lawful assembly charges.
Police arrested 5 youth including Faizan for setting ablaze a police vehicle on the occasion of Eid. The other 4 were sent to Central Jail Srinagar. Three of them have been identified as Mohammad Burhan Lone son of Gulzar Ahmad Lone of Shaheen Mohalla, Noor Bagh Srinagar, first year student at Gandhi Memorial College Srinagar; Mohammad Yunis Sheikh, 17, son of Mohammad Sidiq Sheikh of Dana Mazar Safa Kadal who is a salesman; and Abid Beg son of Ghulam Mohammad Beg of Mahraj Bazar Srinagar.
Police sources said that hunt for 7 others, who are also involved in the setting ablaze of the police vehicle and beating of policemen, is on.
The 12 youth have been identified on the basis of Video footage and photographic evidence of the spot, police sources added.
