BARASAT (WB), June 8:
T Rajkumar Rao, the alleged kingpin in the kidney trade racket, who was arrested by Delhi Police from Rajarhat in West Bengal on Tuesday, was today produced before a court here that granted his transit remand for three days.
Producing Rao at the court of Barasat Chief Judicial Magistrate Apurba Ghosh, Delhi Police appealed for his transit remand for production at the Saket Court in Delhi.
Rao will now be taken to the national capital by Delhi Police for his production at the court there on June 11.
He was arrested for his alleged involvement in the kidney racket that was busted recently by Delhi Police.
He was nabbed from Rajarhat area of the city yesterday. The case has been filed under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994. Sections under IPC 419 (punishment for cheating by personation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 120B (punishment of criminal conspiracy) have also been included in the case. Rao, aged around 40 years, is believed to be associated with similar rackets in Nepal, Sri Lanka and Indonesia. He was under the police scanner for operating similar rackets in Jalandhar, Coimbatore and Hyderabad. He was was identified following interrogation of middlemen in the racket and teams were rushed to several states to track him down. (PTI)
