Court denies bail to cheater

JAMMU, June 2: Special Municipal Magistrate Jammu, M R Chak today rejected the bail application of one Venkata Krishna Modegula, who was arrested by the Crime Branch in the much publicized rice puller case.
After hearing Advocate Vishal Goel for the accused whereas Senior PO MA Almansoor with Inspector Sajjad Pervaz for the State, the court observe, “Crime Branch has affected recovery of Rs 1 crore from the accused and Rs 2 crore are yet to be recovered from him. He is a resident of Hyderabad and in case he is admitted to bail at this stage, there is every possibility of his taking to heels to frustrate the recovery of balance amount”.
“From the case diary, it is manifest that besides this amount, huge amount has been transferred by different persons in his account and in all probabilities, the accused if set free at this stage shall flee leaving the investigating agency in lurch. Even if investigation is otherwise complete, the accused is not entitled to be released on bail keeping in view the fact that Rs 2 crore are yet to be recovered from him”, the court observed while rejecting the bail application.
SSP Crime Branch Jammu Mubassir Latifi said that all the efforts are being made to arrest other accused and affect recovery of remaining amount from them.
