JAMMU, Sept 15: Principal Sessions Judge Jammu, R S Jain today awarded five years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 50,000 to Vinod Kumar, son of Sham Lal of Karwanda, Jammu tehsil, who was facing trial in attempt to murder case of his wife.
The accused was arrested after he attempted to kill his wife by sprinkling kerosene oil on June 30, 2004.
After hearing both the sides, Principal Sessions Judge observed that the accused has been found guilty in attempting to commit murder of his wife and convicted under Section 307 RPC.
“Unfortunately, it is a case where the accused no doubt is young but his wife is even younger, around 18 years old when the offence took place. Being a male, he has an added advantage to exploit his youth even after undergoing sentence but she has been deprived of her health and natural beauty due to extensive frontal burns”, the court said.
“Accused would have no problem in settling in the society but the victim Pooja Devi with her burn injuries would have lifelong problem of adjusting in the society. All of this makes this charge so serious”, the court said and awarded five years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50000 to the accused.
“The fine if realized will be payable to Pooja Devi. In case of default in payment of fine, accused shall further undergo imprisonment for a period of one year”, the court directed.
