JAMMU, May 12: Principal Sessions Judge Jammu, Jang Bhadur Singh Jamwal, today awarded nine years Rigorous Imprisonment to militant namely Mustaq Ahmed, son of Nizam-Din of Haveli Poonch, who was arrested under Arms Act.
According to the police case, on January 1, 2003 Mustaq Ahmed was apprehended along with AK rifle, 120 cartridges, 4 AK magazine, 2 grenade and 2 radio sets.
After hearing Public Prosecutor Shabir Choudhary for the State and Advocate Prince Khanna for the accused, Principal Sessions Judge observed, “the offence committed by the accused does not invite any lenient view. But seen the age of the convict accused, law and legal provisions contained in Arms Act, the minimum sentence is provided for seven years and fine and maximum is for 10 years”.
“The Court is conscious of the fact that accused was aiding and providing the arms and ammunition to the militants but no such evidence could be collected. It was only collected that accused was in possession of arms and ammunition only”, Principal Sessions Judge said, adding “the Court is satisfied that sentence of nine years will serve the purpose”.
Accordingly, Mustaq Ahmed code Mohd Iqbal was awarded nine years imprisonment.
