Couple held for blackmailing people

Srinagar, Feb 1: Police in Uri today arrested a woman and her husband who used to blackmail people by threatening to implicate them in false sexual harassment cases.
Police said that the couple who used to trap men by different means hail from Uri and both of them have been arrested.
While detailing the case, police said that the accused women used to get contact numbers of men from public places like banks, shops and other places and “used to call them and record their conversations and would later threaten them that she would leak the recordings. She used to extract money from them through her husband,”
Police said that one such case came into light on January 29, when a shop keeper of Lagama village approached police with a complaint that he was being blackmailed by a woman.
“She had asked him to pay Rs 40 thousand, failing which he would be framed in a false sexual harassment case,” police said.
Police said that the gang has duped many men in the area, but they failed to report it to the police.
In this regard, a case FIR No 09 dated 30/01/2021 has been lodged under sections 420, 506 and 120-B of the IPC.
