JAMMU, Sept 24: The State Cooperative Department and various Coop banks/ institutions have suffered losses worth over Rs 5.87 crores in recent rains and floods in the State.
It was disclosed in a high level meeting of the Cooperatives Department held today in which the functioning of Department and Co-operative institutions including banks, was reviewed. The meet also assessed the losses caused to the institutions and department due to recent floods and rains.
The meeting was chaired by Secretary to Government, Cooperatives Department R K Koul at the head office of J&K State Cooperative Agriculture & Rural Development Bank, Hyderpora, Srinagar. It was disclosed in the meeting that the estimated loss to the assets in various financial institutions/ banks and department due to floods in Kashmir valley is to the tune of Rs 5.87 crore. It was also claimed that as on date, all the Coop Bank branches across Kashmir valley were operational. The officers claimed that JAKFED has provided 5000 LPG cylinders to the general public without asking for any documentary evidence in Valley.
Registrar Cooperative Societies stated that the ground floor of his office at Bemina in Srinagar was still water logged. Mr Koul asked all the chief executives, MDs and the officers from the Cooperative Department to work out the actual figures on account of losses and submit the same to the Administrative Department.
The meeting was also attended by Registrar Cooperatives J&K, Basharat Saleem, Chairman JKSCB Ltd Srinagar, Managing Director J&K State Coop Agriculture & Rural Development Bank Ltd Sgr, Mohd Aslam Bhat, MD Baramulla Central Coop Bank, MD Urban Coop Bank Anantnag, General Manager, State Coop Agri & Rural Development Bank Jammu, Mohd Ilyas Khawaja, MD Housing Cooperation Jammu and several other officers from Cooperative Department and banks.
