Convention throws light on Electricity Amendment Bill 2022

JAMMU, Oct 15: J&K Power Employees and Engineers Coordination Committee (JKPEECC) here today held a convention against Electricity Amendment Bill 2022.
Shailendra Dubey, chairman All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) and Abhimanya Dhankar, secretary general AIPDEF were key note speakers while members of National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE) also participated along with hundreds of power employees and engineers from all the districts of Jammu and representatives of Kashmir also participated in the Convention aimed at enlightening the employees and consumers about sweeping changes that the Electricity Amendment Bill 2022 proposes to introduce that shall detrimentally affect the interests of employees and consumers.
“The Bill will open up the distribution of power for private players and profitable areas will be taken over by the private companies and a monopoly which we see today in Telcom sector will be there in Power Distribution sector too if this Bill becomes an Act,” speakers in the Convention said.
It is pertinent to mention that The Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2022 had been sent to Standing Committee of Parliament on Energy after uproar across the country against various provisions of the Bill in August 2022.
Speaking on the occasion, Shailendra Dubey said the Bill violates basic structure of the Constitution and State Power utilities are under an obligation to fulfil welfare obligations of the State in terms of the Directive Principles of the Constitution which state that the ownership and control of material resources of the community are so distributed as best to sub-serve the common good.
Sachin Tickoo, convenor JKPEECC and president JKEEGA; Jiapal Sharma, chairman JKPEECC and others also spoke on the occasion and urged the Government of India and the Standing Committee to hold wider discussions with all the stakeholders on Electricity Amendment bill 2022.
The convention resolved to participate in large numbers in November 23 call of Delhi Chalo by the NCCOEEE against the Bill and all ways and means of protest shall be adopted for registering strong protest against the Electricity Amendment bill 2022Bill.
