Contribute generously for IRCS: Chib

JAMMU, Dec 16:  Highlighting the role of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Minister for Medical Education R S Chib said that it is the prime organization which is rendering selfless services to the needy people of the society.
The Minister was speaking at the valedictory function of 2-day Red Cross Mela organized by Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu Region at Kala Kendra today. The aim of the Mela was to mobilize the volunteers and garner the funds for the organization.
The Minister called upon the stakeholders for contributing generously for the organization which is working for the noble cause of society.
The Minister revealed that Rs. 17 lakh contribution was made by different organizations in which J&K Bank is the largest contributor of Rs. 4 lakh during the Mela.  He said an Attendant Sarai has also been constructed by the Red Cross Society, Jammu Chapter at Government Medical College, Jammu for the convenience of attendants, adding that efforts are also on to construct one more sarai.
Earlier, the Minister inspected stalls put-in place by various Educational Institutions and Non-Government Organization (NGOs) at the Mela venue and interacted with the participants. He also went round the portrait exhibition and witnessed the paintings based on drug abuse by Suresh Sharma.
Giving brief account of IRCS, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and Chairman of IRCS, Jammu Region Pardeep Gupta said that the purpose of the organization is to provide immediate succor to the victims of accident, natural calamity and war. He said besides various other organizations, CRPF, Indian Air Force and Educational Institutions contributed for the organization.
The students of Government Women College, Parade Ground presented a variety of colourful cultural programmes. The local artists also presented programme which spell bound the audiences.
In the Raffle draw, the first prize Nano car went to ticket bearing number 273250, the second prize, one motor cycle went to ticket number 062764 and the third prize one LCD went to ticket number 198294.
