Contractual lecturers protest, demand regularization

JAMMU, Feb 5: Contractual 10+2 lecturers held a protest here today to press the Government to regularize their services.
Scores of 10+2 lecturers from various districts of the State Assembled under banner of All J&K Contractual Lecturers’ Association here at Exhibition Ground to register their protest. They castigated the State Government for paying no heed to the plight of school lecturers engaged on Academic Arrangement on a meager pay scale of Rs 7000 per month.
Urging for the implementation of Apex Court’s decision of ‘Equal pay for equal work’ and Contractual cannot replace Contractual, Abhimanyu Sharma (a contractual lecturer) regretted that the exploitation of the highly educated youth engaged as academic arrangement on contractual basis in schools on nominal wages is deplorable and inhumane. And the Government should stop ‘use and throw policy’ under which every year the Government recruits the highly qualified youth and terminates them after taking their service.
Seeking regularization of the lecturers on academic arrangement in the Education Department, Gurjeet Singh, another contractual lecturer, requested the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Education Minister Naeem Akhter to frame a policy for inclusion of such lecturers so that the educated youth serving the department can make their families have their just two meals with satisfaction.
Sangeeta Sambyal, another contractual lecturer appealed the Government to stop the recruitment of the Academic Arrangement Contractual youth every year and continue the lecturers who are already serving the department and implement the decision of the court that contractual cannot replace contractual.
