Contractors protest against non release of payments

JAMMU, Sept 20: Contractors Association PWD Jammu province gathered at Lok Nirman Bhawan, Rail Head Complex, here, today and protested against the long pending payments of works executed in emergency during the year 2013-2014 under SDRF besides other payments which are pending so far and not being released despite repeated requests of the contractors.
In a signed statement, the general secretaries of the Association, Joy Khokhar and Vinod Kohli said the payments of macadamization is also pending for last two years and the matter was brought to the notice Minister PWD but no action has been taken in this regard so far with the result the contractors are facing a lot of problem.
The contractors warned that if the payments were not released before Diwali no work will be executed by them till liabilities are cleared.
The contractors demanded bifurcation of CRF and Medical College’s tenders to adjust maximum number of local contractors. They also demanded that the restrictions be imposed in participation of contractors from outside the State in execution of government work as this has rendered local contractors jobless.
They further alleged that since the implementation of GST submission of three number of returns every month is a great problem for every contractor who has no work in hand.
