The news report regarding contaminated water is quite alarming and it should force the Government to take stock of the situation and take corrective steps accordingly. The news reports should serve as a wake-up call for the Public Health Engineering Department to supply pure potable water to people. In case it faces financial constraints or lack of technical expertise, it should seek the same from the Government.
Water is an essential, component without which life is not possible. Contaminated water is main cause of water-borne disease expecially in rural areas of the State.
There is urgent need to construct water reserviours and filtration plants where from water could be supplied to people. Besides, leaking pipes passing through dirty nallahs should be plugged.
Now, as summer is approaching, there will be more demand for water. And there is likelihood that germs may be more active during this time. Hope the PHE will stand up to the challenge.
