Consumer Forum imposes Rs 65,000 fine on Principal

JAMMU, July 30: The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Jammu has imposed a fine of Rs 65,000 on Father S Joseph, Principal St Francis Higher Secondary School, Akhnoor for causing mental torture and agony to a student Vishal Khajuria, who was then studying in 10th class of the school.
Vishal had filed the petition before the Forum through his father Ram Paul Sharma, a resident of village Sainth, Akhnoor.
The Forum after listening to the both sides directed the Principal to pay an amount of Rs 45,000 as compensation to the student for causing mental torture and agony, Rs 15,000 for charging extra fee and humiliating the complainant in front of other students and putting him in wrong confinement and Rs 5000 as cost of litigation.
The Forum directed the Principal to comply with the order within one month from the date of receipt failing which the awarded amount would be recovered with 6 per cent interest per annum from the date of the order.
On deposit of the amount with the Forum by the Principal, it will be paid to the complainant.
