RAJOURI, Sept 26: A protest was held in Planghar area of Tehsil Thannamandi against the Dharam Raj Construction Pvt Ltd company, engaged in executing road up-gradation project from Rajouri to Bufliaz.
Protestors were shouting slogans against the Company Management for not paying their wages of the last 3-4 months. The protesting workers told that they were employed in the company and for the initial two months, salary was given to them timely but after that from last three month no salary was given to them.
The aggrieved poor labourers further revealed that they had nothing to feed their families. They said when ever they demand salary from company officials, they ask them to leave the job and threaten for termination. In many cases even appointment letters were not issued to them till now.
It’s pertinent to mention here that the J&K Administration has already directed the companies to give priority to local unemployed youth in the companies executing projects in J&K but M/s Dharam Raj Company has not only violating this directive but also threatening those who are already working in the company and not providing salary to these local workers. Even several local engineers have been denied opportunity to work on this road project.
Protestors told that at that time of inauguration DC Rajouri had told that locals will be given preference over non- locals in job but they are totally reversing it and a number of employees have already been terminated by the company.
They appealed to the Lt Governor, Divisional Commissioner Jammu and DC Rajouri to intervene into matter and direct the Company to recruit locals engineers in the company and also provide salary to all the employees timely.
