Sir,
Finally, it is a dream come true for people of Ladakh. The decision of the Central Government to grant Rs 2717 cr for construction of tunnel at Zojila is quite welcome. It was a long pending demand of the people of this remote area which remains cut off for atleast six months from the rest of the country. This has resulted in the whole of region remaining backward educationally and economically. During the time the road remains cut off, the people here face great hardships. Living almost becomes miserable. People experience shortage of fuel, cooking gas, and other essential items of daily use. Though the Government ensures full stocks of the same, even then shortage of these items is a perennial problem.
The tunnel will change the socio-economic complexion of the region. It may give a boost to commerce and business activities.
People will have the option of travelling by road which is comparatively cheaper than air travel. The interaction of the local people with other sections of society would become more frequent.
Tourism sector will also get a boost and many more employment opportunities will be created.
Yours etc…
