LEH, May 13: The Member Parliament, Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Government of India led by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi for inviting bids for Zojila tunnel and preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) for three major tunnels including Shinkun-La, Tanglang-La and Lachaung- La through National Highways and Infrastructure Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) connecting Union Territory of Ladakh throughout the year with rest of the world.
MP JTN in a press statement issued here, today stated that construction of these four major tunnels are very long pending genuine demand of the people of Ladakh and said that this significant and historic development is a new beginning for the land and people of Ladakh. Connecting Ladakh round the year will lead Ladakh towards new era of development and opportunities and besides easing the life of Ladakhi people living in this strategically important region bordering with two hostile neighboring countries China and Pakistan, the security and supremacy of nation will be strengthened, JTN added.
He said that initiating works on four major tunnels for Ladakh shows the determination and concern of PM Modi for the people of Ladakh and for the region bordering with both China and Pakistan and recalled some of the path breaking projects started by Modi Government for Ladakh including Bilaspur-Manali-Leh new Rail Line, new Terminal building of Kushok Bakula Rinpochey (KBR) Airport at Leh to improve connectivity and PM Modi’s vision to develop Ladakh as a carbon neutral region.
Ladakh MP also conveyed his gratitude to the Minister of Road, Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari for his proactive care for the overall development of the newly carved Union Territory of Ladakh by issuing the tender notices even during these challenging times of pandemic which also shows the dedication and commitment of GoI for overall development of the country in general and Ladakh in particular.
Opening up of Shinkun-La via Manali would connect Zanskar one of the remotest region of Ladakh with rest of the world round the year which otherwise remains cutoff even with district headquarter Kargil during winter months, said JTN. While recalling the wish and dream of late former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee for opening up of Zojila Tunnel, JTN said that this vital tunnel will connect entire Ladakh throughout the year which will be a game changer for civil as well as Indian Army in this strategically important region.
It is to mention that NHIDCL has invited bids for construction of Zojila tunnel with Approach Road on both western and eastern side worth Rs 622.29 core with completion period of 24 months. NHIDCL also invited bids for Consultancy Service for preparation of Detail Project Report and providing Pre-Construction activities for construction of Highway Tunnel including approaches across Shinkun-La, Tanglang-La and Lachaung La in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
