Construct bridge over Chenab at Maitra: Ex-MLA

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Oct 16: Former MLA from Ramban and PCC spokesman Ashok Sharma has urged upon the Governor, Satya Pal Malik that four-lane concrete motorable bridge should be constructed over the river Chenab at Maitra near Ramban connecting Ramban city with district headquarters.
He pointed out that recently, Ramban District Administration banned vehicular traffic on suspension of steel bridge for the safety of the people. The bridge has become totally unsafe for any kind of vehicular traffic in past two years. Border Road Organisation too had already declared suspension bridge unsafe for all types of traffic movement.
Ashok said that school and college going students, serious patients, employees, transporters and small scale businessman of Ramban district have been facing a lot of difficulties due to the negligence and delay by the Government in the construction of new bridge which has been already sanctioned. However, concerned authorities are not paying any attention to this menace.
People of the peripheral area have to travel through long bypass road to reach district headquarters in their day to day work. Serious patients have to face same problem for travelling long bypass routes to reach Ramban district hospital for their treatment. It is a great injustice to the people of this hilly terrain and backward district which includes people belonging to Gool, Sangaldhan, Gandhri, Kanga Pernote and Maitra, also the people of adjoining areas of Rajgarh tehsil, Halla Dandrath, Kenthi, Seri, Karol, Marog, Digdol and Banihal are suffering badly.
Ex-MLA further said that immediate steps must be taken by the concerned authorities for early construction of new four-lane concrete motorable bridge over river Chenab.
