Congress slams Modi’s ‘DDLJ’ China strategy

NEW DELHI, July 11:
The Congress on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi-led Government at the Centre over reported Chinese transgressions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), including in Ladakh.
Attacking Modi, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said, “A person who once promised to show ‘lal aankh’ (red eyes) to China is today afraid to even take the name of China. “The PM must stop appeasing China to protect his image. More than two years after the border crisis with China began in Eastern Ladakh, Modi’s strategy can be summed up with ‘DDLJ’ (Deny, Distract, Lie and Justify).”
Congress demanded a presser by the Prime Minister, Defence Minister and External Affairs Minister to tell the nation about the current situation, followed by a ”white paper”.
The opposition party also demanded a two-day special discussion in the forthcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament besides a dedicated discussion on the confrontation to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence on the Chinese situation.
“We take the Chinese expansionist efforts very seriously. Whether its Northeast or Jammu and Kashmir or Ladakh, the Government of India’s approach has been extremely weak.
It is a matter related to India’s territorial integrity and sovereignty,” Gogoi said at a press conference here at the party headquarters. Referring to the recent meeting between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Indonesia’s Bali, Gogoi, who is also the Congress’ Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha said, “No surprise then that the latest round of talks on July 7 between them failed to show any results.”
“We have five specific demands — there should be a press conference in which the PM, Defence Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister should speak in one voice and present the truth to the people of India, two-day special discussion in the upcoming Parliament session and a dedicated discussion on the same in our Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence,” Gogoi said.
The other two demands are early appointment of a full-time Chief of Defence Staff and withdrawal of the Agnipath Scheme, he said. (UNI)
