JAMMU, Dec 8: Rejecting the charges against Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru, Congress has said that BJP-RSS propaganda in this regard since Independence, was false, distorted and a malicious campaign in furtherance political strategy and designs.
“BJP-RSS are aware of the remarkable role and unmatchable contributions of Pt Nehru in the freedom struggle and post Independence but are jealous of his stature and for political vested interests they always tried to distort historical facts to mislead the countrymen,” said JKPCC Senior Vice President and Media Incharge of the party, Ravinder Sharma.
Maintaining that role and contribution of Pt Nehru cannot be forgotten for generations to come, he said that it was Nehru who worked tirelessly for the accession of the 80 percent Muslim majority State bordering Pakistan, with India, by associating the then tallest leadership of Kashmir, with him, to defeat the two nation theory of Jinnah on Kashmir.
“The history is witness to this fact that the entire Kashmir worked closely to defeat and fail the invaders’ attack in 1947 and did not allow Pakistan to succeed on J&K. However the vested interests and communal forces are at work for decades to discredit the entire population and mainstream leadership of Kashmir, in the eyes of rest of the countrymen, forgetting the supreme sacrifices of Master Maqbool Sherwani and Master Abdul Aziz and others and those who fell to the bullets of terrorists all these years,” said the Congress leader.
Reminding that ceasefire on J&K was done after more than one year and three months of war on January 1st, 1949, he said the charge that Pt Nehru hurried for ceasefire and ignored the military advice was therefore wrong.
Secondly, he further said, the charge of going to UN over the issue is concerned, it was a complaint against Pakistan with a view to declare and expose her as an aggressor and looter but these positive achievements of Pt Nehru cannot be digested by BJP.
He said Instead of finding faults & manufacturing evidence against then leadership, it’s time to unitedly deal effectively with present and future challenges emerging to the nation in our neighborhood.
