Congress demands cut in prices of petrol, diesel

JAMMU, May 31: Demanding cut in prices of petrol and diesel and expressing resentment over the failure of the Government to establish peace on borders, Congress Vichar Vibhag, AICC, Rahul Gandhi Youth Brigade and unorganized Congress workers jointly staged a sit-in protest in front of Raj Bhawan, Jammu.

While addressing the protesting workers, Congress Vichar Vibhag, AICC Coordinator, Ashok Sharma, urged upon the Union as well as J&K Government to provide Rs 25 lakh each to the families of the border martyrs, besides providing them concrete bunkers, 5 marlas plot and declaring at least 5 km belt as backward area.
The protesters demanded adequate water supply and uninterrupted power to the people of the State, besides check on rampant corruption in public life due to failure of governance. They also demanded the comprehensive youth policy for the State, appointment of the Lokpal, besides regularization of casual, daily wagers and adhoc workers both in Government and public sector.
Dr Manhor Lal Sharma criticized the PDP-BJP Government saying that it has failed on all fronts. “Unprecedented increased in the petroleum products and continuous firing on the border has made the life of the people miserable. There is dire need to ensure check on rampant corruption and to restore confidence of the people in governance”, he added.
Former Minister Gharu Ram and Munish Raja demanded adequate compensation to the border migrants and firing victims against loss of human and cattle life, properties and crops while Vinod Sharma, former General Secretary, JKPCC, expressed serious concern over the power cuts and shortage of drinking water during the hot summers which has made the people suffer.
MK Bhardwaj, member of AICC, while addressing dharna, expressed concern on the failure of the Government to provide necessities of life to the border migrants and adequate compensation to the victims’ family.
LK Sharma, chairman, Pradesh Vichar Vibhag and Sarbjeet Singh, general secretary, Rahul Gandhi Youth Brigade also spoke on the occasion.
