JAMMU, Aug 21: As Congress continued protest against smart meters, JKPCC Working President Raman Bhalla led a demonstration in Ward-5, Khatika Tallab and lashed out at ruling BJP for allegedly hoodwinking public opinion.
Bhalla was accompanied by Yogesh Sawhney, former Minister and In-Charge District President Jammu Urban; Pranav Shagotra and Corporator Rittu Choudhary. The protesting Congress leaders asked the Government to reconsider its decisions and prioritize the welfare of the people failing which the people of Jammu will have no option other than to take to streets.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla said that BJP has nothing to offer to the people and therefore it has been shying away from focussing on the core issues. He claimed that all sections of society were suffering under BJP rule as promises made to them have turned out to be hollow.
Bhalla alleged that Modi Govt failed to tackle unemployment in nine years of its governance at the Centre despite having promised to provide an unprecedented number of jobs to the youth.
Yogesh Sawhney alleged that the present Government has only given rise to a situation of uncertainty, chaos and confusion and J&K was passing through the worst ever misrule.
Corporator Ritu Choudhary also addressed the gathering and claimed that people were waiting to teach BJP a lesson in the upcoming 2024 Parliamentary elections.
Meanwhile, District Congress Committee (DCC) Rural also held a protest against Govt’s arbitrary decisions on Electric Prepaid Meters & Property Tax and Toll Plaza at Sarrore The protest was led by former Ministers Mula Ram, Yogesh Sawhney and Hari Singh who asked the Government to roll back anti-people decisions or face consequences.
The protest was held at the Jammu North Assembly segment, wherein Block Presidents, Uttam Singh, Ex-Corporator and other Congress activists to express their discontent with the Government’s anti-people policies. The protesters raised slogans condemning the decision and demanded immediate action from the authorities.
Addressing the gathering, Mula Ram expressed his party’s strong opposition to the installation of smart meters. He categorized the installation of smart meters as a scam, causing considerable distress to the people in the form of exorbitant electricity bills and unnecessary power cuts, particularly affecting those belonging to the lower-income bracket.
Hari Singh Chib warned the Government that if the decisions regarding electric smart prepaid meters and property tax and Toll plaza Sarrore are not rolled back, the people of Jammu region will take to the streets in protest.
