JAMMU, Nov 14: Rich tributes were paid to the first Prime Minister of India, Pt Jawaharlal Nehru on his 128th Birth Anniversary in various functions organized across the State today.

In the main function held at PCC headquarters, Shaheedi Chowk Jammu today, many Congress leaders and other functionaries besides party workers paid floral tributes to Pt Nehru and recalled his contributions for the country and Congress Party.
The function was organized by DCC Jammu Urban and presided over by Sham Lal Sharma, senior vice president PCC. The other senior leaders who paid tributes to Pt Nehru included, former Ministers – Raman Bhalla (vice president); Mohd Sharief Niaz, Ravinder Sharma (chief spokesperson) Rajnish Sharma, District president Jammu (Urban) Anil Chopra, Indu Pawar (President Mahila Congress), Shiv Dev Singh, Ashok Dogra, Zahida Khan, Krishan Lal Gupta, PCC secretaries- Shashi Sharma, Pawan Raina, Manjeet Sigh Jatt, Thomas Khokhar and Nadeem Sharief Niaz.
Sham Lal Sharma described Pt Nehru as the tallest leader of this Country after Mahatma Gandhi, whose contribution in the freedom struggle and as first Prime Minister can never be forgotten. He said that contribution of Pt Nehru to bring the State of J&K to the fold of Indian nation can’t be forgotten and there is need to expose the distortions being made by certain forces for vested political interests.
Raman Bhalla while paying tributes described Pt Nehru as a great statesman and visionary leader who laid sound foundation of Modern India. He is Known as architect of Modern India because of his multi- dimensional contributions in shaping the future of Independent India. He said that Nehru as a true democrat and nationalist with global outlook, was a builder of institutions of excellence like IITs, IIMs that truly empowered the younger generations of India to become the globally competitive and recognized.
Mohd Sharief Niaz, Ravinder Sharma, Indu Pawar also paid rich tributes to Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru and described him a great leader who laid strong foundations of Modern India based on secularism and unity in diversity to our great country.
Former minister and senior PCC leader, Taj Mohi- Ud-Din presided over the function.
Addressing the meeting, Taj told the gathering that Pt JL Nerhu was a man of principles, who never compromised on his secular ideology and remained committed to safeguard the secular fabric of the country. It was his dream and commitment to keep every section of the Country united, he said.
Tributes were also paid to Pt Nehru by PCC spokesperson Farooq Andrabi and others.
Meanwhile, DCC Kathua in a function organized under the leadership of DC president and Ex-MLC Subhash Gupta also paid tributes to the first Prime Minister of India.
Similar functions were held at Udhampur, Reasi, Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Batote, Kishtwar and other parts of the State.
