JAMMU, July 18: Congress activists, led by JKPCC Vice President Raman Bhalla and General Secretary Balwan Singh, today held a protest demonstration against price hike of essential commodities and failures of the BJP Government.
Holding placards, the protesters shouted slogans against the BJP Government and raised voice against the daily increasing petrol, diesel and LPG prices. They demanded an immediate cut in taxes to ease the burden on the common man.
The protest, held at Sangrampur Panchayat Patyalichak, Ward 72 in Marh constituency, was organized by block president Vijay Shastri and Ashwani Sharma.
Speaking on the occasion, Raman Bhalla asked the BJP Government to issue a white paper on the financial situation of J&K. “In these seven years, the BJP Government has completely failed to deliver thus triggering large-scale unemployment and mismanaging the COVID crisis in J&K,” he said.
Bhalla alleged that the Government was not paying heed to the needs of the poor and the middle-class people. “The country is surviving on the good deeds of previous Governments since the time of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to Manmohan Singh,” he said.
Bhalla further said that priority of this regime was not to empower people by strengthening democratic institutions but controlling such institutions through undemocratic means. He cautioned that such attitude of the ruling party would prove disastrous for J&K.
Balwan Singh, General Secretary JKPCC called BJP’s rule a “nightmarish era”, and said that various flagship projects in Jammu are still not completed. “The people of Jammu and Kashmir have been deprived of the fundamental rights and basic amenities for the last seven years since BJP came into power. The educated and unemployed youth of the UT are forced to do labour work as there is not employment,” he said
Prominent among others, who spoke on the occasion, included Rashpal Bhardwaj, Corporator Saudhagar, Darshan Mehara, Janak Saini, Raj, Yaqoob, Prithvi, Darshan Mottan and Sarpanch Ghou Jagdish Raj Bhagat.
