JAMMU, Sept 11: Pradesh Congress Committee has decided to organize various functions in connection with the celebration of 125th birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar across the State.
A meeting of the JKPCC 125th Birth Anniversary Celebration Committee of the Babasaheb Dr B R Ambedkar was held at PCC Headquarters here today which was presided over by PCC chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir.
Senior vice president Sham Lal Sharma and Chairman of the Committee Mula Ram, former minister and other senior leaders of PCC district presidents, contesting candidates and District Chairmen of the Dr Ambedkar Committee attended the meeting.
The meeting threadbare discussed the schedule of programmes being organized in different parts of the State as part of year long celebrations to commemorate Dr Ambedkar’s 125th birth anniversary. The campaign is part of the National Celebrations launched by Congress party on June 2, 2015 at Mhow-Madhya Pradesh, the birth place of Dr Ambedkar.
The meeting decided to hold series of functions at different places in the State to involve Congress cadres and leaders of SCs, STs and OBCs at the block and constituency level in order to educate the masses about the significant contributions of Dr Ambedkar in various fields.
Briefing the meeting PCC chief said that Dr Ambedkar worked closely with the Congress party leaders in delivering the Indian Constitution and his ideology of social equilty and vision of a society free of discrimination is in consonance with the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and Pt Jawaharlal Nehru. The Congress is the only party that has made significant contributions towards the empowerment of downtrodden sections of the society, he added.
Mr Mir Said that the series of programmes would involve the Congress cadre and the people in order to highlight Dr Ambedkar’s mission and Congress party’s vision for socio-economic empowerment of Dalits and also expose the anti-Dalit and anti-poor policies of the present regime. The participants shared their views about the strategy and the preparations for the celebrations.
Prominent among others who attended the meeting included Raman Bhalla, Kanta Bhan, Ravinder Sharma, Yogesh Sawhney, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Manjeet Singh, Th Manmohan Singh, Vikram Malhotra, Namrata Sharma, Girdhari Lal Chalotra, Krishan Chander Bhagat, Ashok Dogra, BS Sambyal, Pawan Raina, Neeraj Gupta, Shashi Sharma, Thomas Khokhar and Nadeem Sharief Niaz.
