NEW DELHI, Nov 17:
Minister of Finance and Information & Broadcasting Arun Jaitley today hit back at the Congress for Salman Khurshid’s comments questioning genuineness of crowds seen during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trips abroad. Mr Jaitley said the opposition party is ‘stunned’ by Mr Modi’s popularity abroad.
“Salman Khurshid has made a fascinating claim. He says that there were no people to meet him when he visited Myanmar and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been exporting groups from India to all foreign destinations wherever he visits. If UPA leaders, during their days in Government, left the expatriate Indian population underwhelmed, is it to be presumed that this should be true for others?” Mr Jaitley said in a statement.
The senior BJP leader said he can understand the ‘plight’ of Mr Khurshid and his party colleagues particularly when the Prime Minister gets a larger crowd in Sydney than what a Congress leader gets in India.
Sydney’s Allphones Arena today turned into a mini India as thousands of people of Indian origin thronged the venue of Mr Modi’s event.
Questioning the genuineness of crowd seen during Mr Modi’s foreign visits, Mr Khurshid, a former External Affairs Minister, had claimed that the people are taken from India for slogan-shouting.
