JAMMU, Sept 6: Senior Congress leaders today took out a protest demonstration from Panjvakhtar Mandir to Residency Road, after staging two-hour dharna, seeking resignation of the Mayor, a high level inquiry and action against all those involved in an attempt to fraudulently grab the Temple land for constructing a commercial complex and multi-parking lot.
The party extended its support to the temple caretakers and authorities and organised a massive dharna, followed by a protest procession as a show of defiance of the steps taken by various authorities and BJP leaders in the matter. The leaders raised slogans against the Government as a mark of protest.

The party described the incident as an attempt to grab temple land for private players, through National Highway Authority of India. The entire process was undertaken quietly without even the knowledge of the caretaker appointed by the Court. This shows that many `high profile’ people were involved, otherwise, it wouldn’t have been possible for a public sector undertaking of the Central Government to get involved without knowing the situation of the land. The Municipal Corporation and agencies including JDA were all involved.
Large number of Congress leaders including Raman Bhalla, Ravinder Sharma , Yogesh Sawhney, Neeraj Gupta, Suresh Dogra ,Corporators Dwarka Choudhary and Ritu Choudhary besides Ramakant Khajuria, Varinder Manhas, Uttam Singh, Pawan Dev, Jyoti Vaid, M L Malager, Dwarka Choudhary Rajesh Sharma, Varun Magotra, Camris David, Gurmeet Singh and others participated in the protest demonstration.
It was said that the BJP is in power at the Centre, and BJP leaders in Jammu are misusing their powers for commercial and profitable gains by defrauding the people. Only a high level probe into the matter can expose the deep seated corruption under BJP seats of power. The entire project has calendestinely reached it’s final stage without anyone’s knowledge, and without a proper public notice. This shows the fraudulent nature of the BJP regime in the UT, and the involvement of JMC and JDA raises serious concerns for the citizens.
The Congress leaders said that they extend their full support in standing against this scam and deceit by the authorities, until a definitive action is undertaken, and a high-level inquiry brings the perpetrators of this conspiracy to justice.
