JAMMU, Jan 30: Floral tributes were paid to `Father of the Nation’, Mahatma Gandhi on his martyrdom day by organising different functions by Pradesh Congress today.
PCC organized a function at PCC headquarters Shahidi Chowk, Jammu to commemorate the martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhi. The function was presided over by former Minister and PCC vice president Raman Bhalla.
Rich tributes were paid to the ‘father of Nation’ and his great contributions in the freedom struggles were remembered. Two- minutes silence was observed to pay respect to the great leader.
While speaking on the occasion, senior Congress leaders flayed the communal and divisive forces who were behind the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. They said that Congress represents the ideology and philosophy of Gandhi ji but those who disrespect Mahatma Gandhi and represent the ideology and philosophy of the killer of Gandhi ji, are trying to befool and mislead the masses. Such forces are the enemies of the Nation and weakening the nation by spreading hatred amongst communities and religions. The people should reject the forces who are against the fundamental philosophy and ideology of Gandhi ji.
The speakers asked the people to differentiate between the followers of the philosophy of Nathu Ram Godse, the killer of Gandhi ji and the followers of the philosophy of Gandhi ji and don’t be mislead by the forces who always opposed Gandhi’s ideology and philosophy. The nation can remain united and strong only by following the philosophy and ideology of Mahatma Gandhi but regretted that certain forces are out to destroy and weaken his ideology which pose threat to the secular fabric and unity in diversity in the country.
Prominent among those who attended the function included Manmohan Singh -PCC general secretary, Vikram Malhotra- Distt pPresident Jammu(Urban), YV Sharma, Krishan Lal Gupta, Shiv Kumar Sharma (INTUC chief), Sukhdev Singh Choudhary, Manjit Singh Jatt, BB Gupta, Madan Lal Malagar, PS Chouhan, Pawan Dev Singh, Gourav Chopra, Ritu Choudhary, Mohiuddin Choudhary, Harvinder Kour, Chanchal Popli, Jyoti Vaid, Vijay Sharma, Gourav Kapoor, Shekhar Sharma, Pervez Fazli, Sandeep Gandotra, Sushant Gupta, Harvinder Singh, Maqbool Choudhary, Vishal Gupta, Ram Pal, Rama Devi, Shivani Bhagat RK Sodi and others.
Former MLC Subash Gupta also organised a function in this connection at Hiranagar in district Kathua and paid floral tributes to the Father of the Nation on his 71st death anniversary. A large number of Congress workers attended the program and paid rich tributes to Gandhi ji. The speakers also recalled the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi in Freedom struggle. Similar functions were held at different places across the region.
Youth for Peace, a social organization also organized a function to pay floral tributes to the Father of Nation here today. The program was held under the leadership of Shouket Ashai, state president. The speakers recalled the contributions of Gandhi Ji.
