JAMMU, June 4: J&K Pradesh Congress Committee’s OBC wing today urged the Government to stop privatisation of power distribution in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement issued here, chairman of OBC wing, Suresh Kumar Dogra has condemned the recent statement of the Union Finance Minister over privatisation of power in J&K Union Territory in which she said, “This is expected to provide a model to be replicated in the States and UTs, later to improve efficiency and attract investment.”
Dogra said the Finance Minister is ignoring the large population of the J&K and only favouring few multinational companies to be benefitted due to privatisation of the power. “Every section of the society such as labour, orchestra parties, transporters, manual workers, vendors, advocates and even industrialists are facing hardships and are unable to pay even the small bills of their phones, schools fees of their children, EMIs of the banks due to COVID-19 prolonged lockdown,” he said.
“Now, the question arises that how these people would be able to bear the expensive burden of privatisation of power and pay electricity tariffs as per the revised plans by the private companies,” he said.
Dogra urged the Government to roll back its decision over the privatisation of electricity in the J&K, otherwise, it will be proved as Jazia of the Mughal era.
