VIJAYPUR, Nov 11: Expressing strong resentment over the Congress high command ignoring him for party mandate in Assembly polls, Congress leader and PCC member Arun Sharma today threatened to contest the election as Independent candidate.
Talking to media persons, here today, he lamented that despite his more than two decade old association and loyalty with Congress, the party preferred a turncoat over him. “It is not understandable to me how the high command has preferred to give the mandate to a person who joined the party recently and is well known for shifting political loyalty,” Arun said and added that such unwise decisions of the Congress high command were the only reason behind repeated defeat of party candidates from Vijaypur for the last three successive Assembly elections.
Stating that he was under immense pressure from his supporters to quit the Congress and contest elections as Independent candidate, Arun warned that he would be compelled to take a decision in this regard if the party high command does not convey him a satisfactory reason behind the denial to mandate.
